I figured, what with the Creole Cream Cheese Ice Cream not turning out exactly as I planned, that maybe the ice cream needed something to go on it, like strawberries. I ate strawberries on the Creole Cream Cheese for breakfast, and it was a good mixture of flavors. Once again, I turned to Chef Google for inspiration, and found a lot of recipes. I combined two recipes, plus added a tip from the comments. Easy Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream Topping from Mom On Timeout blog sounded exactly like what I needed, but Strawberry Sauce from The Pioneer Woman also had some appeal. I should learn something from both these blogs: great photos!! I didn’t even think to take a picture of the strawberries while they were whole.
I liked that Easy Topping keeps all the strawberry in it, while Pioneer Woman strains out the pulp, but I also loved Pioneer Woman’s addition of vanilla to the sauce – and several of the commenters on The Pioneer Woman mentioned adding a pat of butter to keep the foaming down. Oh yeah, I’m all about the butter. So, without further ado, my version:
Put all of the ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat Cook 20 minutes That seems to be it! Let it cool, put it in a jar, pour it hot over ice cream and waffles and put some in your breakfast smoothie. One recipe indicated it would keep a week in the fridge - I don't think I'll get to test that theory! I made the sauce with an additional 1/3 cup of water, which was in one of the 2 recipes I consulted, but it's too watery. The other recipe did not have additional water, and I think that may be better. The taste is excellent - a tiny bit of tart in the sweet.Strawberry Sauce for Ice Cream Recipe

I totally need some cute jars to put it in for photos (see below!). Instead, I’ll probably put it in a plastic yogurt container to go out to my sister’s for lunch, along with the yogurt container of the ice cream. And if I remember, maybe I’ll take a photo of it on ice cream before we eat!
I found this cute jar! I put some sauce in it, took photos and then put all the sauce in the plastic yogurt container because this jar, while cute as a button, holds about 2 tablespoons of sauce. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
oops – forgot to take photos of the ice cream!! Well, rest assured, they looked very photogenic being spooned into our mouths, and it all tasted great!
